Naval Base Ventura County Winter Wonderland
Each year the Oxnard Ambassadors sponsor a Winter Wonderland to provide gifts to children of military families.
2020 - Winter Wonderlandmore
December 12, 2020, the Oxnard Ambassadors participated in the Naval Base Ventura County Winter Wonderland. Ambassador Dan Alpern made the suggestion at our November meeting and we jumped aboard with gusto. We raised $3,000 to purchase toys and gift cards to present to the military children as part of the Holiday Drive Through. Due to COVID this year the event was a driving course where several sponsors were located to pass out goodies. There were candy canes, holiday tiaras, live carolers, penguins, elves, and of course Santa.

Consul General Steve Huber and Deputy Consul General Tony Murguia along with their families set up the "station" next to Santa. They were able to hand deliver 250 gifts to very surprised children and parents. Wish you could have seen some of their faces - pure joy! One lady was in tears because she had been having a tough year and our gifts made her so happy. Tony greeted each car and passed them a business card with our Ambassador logo, mission statement, and web address. Steve wished military and their families in the over 100 cars "Happy Holidays" as he handed them age appropriate gifts for each military child in the vehicle.

Thanks to the 14 Ambassadors who donated funds and Rod Gietzen who donated Yolanda's gift cards. The Ambassadors plan to hand out even more toys in 2021.

2021 - Winter Wonderlandmore
December 10, 2021, the Oxnard Ambassadors again participated in the Winter Wonderland by raising over $5,000 which provided over 500 presents that were delivered to military children at Naval Base Ventura County. The gift line was long but between presents and gift cards every child received something from the Oxnard Ambassadors.

Thanks go out to the crew of Consul General Tony and Linda Murguia, Steve and Eileen Huber, Teri Scheid (friend of the Ambassadors), Dan Alpern, Rick Gill, Otto Kanny, and Mark Spellman. The smiles were wonderful to see when the gifts were handed out.

Taylor Penny, our newest ambassador, did a fantastic job of coordinating the event and making the magic happen on base. Base leaders were very appreciative and families were in awe that the Oxnard Ambassadors would be so kind in showing appreciation for their service.
